Buckworth Stud owners approached us in July 2016 to assist them in obtaining approval for a new house on the site of their thriving equestrian business. We submitted a proposal for a four bedroom house taking into account the clients progressive health condition of multiple sclerosis. The client is keen to remain active and continue working on the stud business for as long as he can. To enable him to do this the house is designed to not restrict his movement in any part of it.
The site proposal is made up of three buildings forming a 'cluster' type appearance of an agricultural holding. The one and a half storey, scale and form, of the main house reflects the vernacular aesthetic and style of the rural Cambridgeshire location with two subsidiary buildings propagating from it to house a garage and small therapy pool house. We have proposed to use traditional materials in a contemporary fashion along with a large open-plan ground floor area with glazed walls exploiting the views to the East.
