Mill Post - Highly Sustainable Home
Yelling, Huntingdon, UK
We have recently submitted a planning application for a 4 bedroom house on an historic brownfield site surrounded by open countryside. The site, originally a post windmill dating from the 15th century, demolished for an aerodrome in World War 1, has been used for the past 40 years as a builders yard. The proposal is for a highly sustainable home to be built to Passive House Standards. It is formed by two interlocking traditionally shaped, timber mass, habitable enclosures. The first, lower level form, locates a part of the site where an existing barn sits. The second form, cracked to face into the South-Westerly prevailing wind direction, elevated with angled post supports, reflects the historic windmill mass, sat upon its strutted post.
